John is not a politician. He is a public servant, who wants to make our state better, our communities safer and rebuild trust in our leaders.
John is a former state and federal prosecutor. He was a prosecutor in the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office for 16 years. During this time, John prosecuted serious felony cases, securing convictions in cases ranging from First Degree Murder, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, Aggravated DUI, Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking and the Attempted Murder of Police Officers.
From 2018 to 2021, John served as the United States Attorney for the Central District of Illinois, after being confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate. As U.S. Attorney, John served as the chief federal law enforcement officer for 46 counties in Central Illinois. He successfully prosecuted murderers, violent criminals, child predators, drug dealers, embezzlers, and human traffickers. John also focused on building strong partnerships with local, state and federal law enforcement and with the community. Most recently, he gained bipartisan praise for the prosecution of an elected official on charges of fraud, money laundering, and tax evasion related to his alleged misuse of campaign money for personal expenses. Milhiser has a decades-long history of investigating and overseeing prosecution cases of corruption and other crimes against the public.
John’s commitment to justice and public service will help to restore faith in state government and our leaders. John served as an instructor on ethics, training new prosecutors for the National District Attorneys Association. With a Governor and statewide officials that continue Speaker Madigan’s culture of corruption, Illinois needs someone of utmost integrity. The Secretary of State’s office oversees some of the state’s most critical functions. John Milhiser will operate the office with zero tolerance for corruption and demand efficient and effective service to taxpayers.
